How to Disclose

This guide outlines the key steps to disclose through CDP, including setting up a CDP account, accessing the CDP Portal, and responding to the CDP questionnaire.

Step-by-step guide

For companies and SMEs

If you are a previous user

You should have received an email from CDP inviting you to sign into the Portal – if you have this email, follow the instructions to sign in or read our knowledge article outlining the steps to access the Portal as a previous user. If you have not received an email from CDP, you can sign in to the Portal here.

Once you are signed in, you can also invite colleagues to access your organization’s account on the Portal. See more detailed instructions on how to add or edit a team member in our knowledge article.

If you are a new user

You will need to complete the Register to Disclose form to gain access to the Portal. This form is for:

  • new users of organizations that have been requested to disclose by their customers or investors; or

  • any companies wishing to disclose without having received a request from any stakeholders through CDP.

Once you fill out the Register to Disclose form, you will be added to your organization as a new user, and be able to disclose through CDP. This process is essential to ensure you are linked to the right organization. See our Knowledge Article for further information on how to Register to Disclose as a new user.

Disclosing through CDP without a request from your stakeholders (Self-Selected Organisations)

If you have not received a request to disclose through CDP but would like to do so, you can register to disclose as a self-selected company, (or SSC). Please complete the Register to Disclose form to register your interest and gain access to the Portal.

Once you have gained access, read our knowledge article on how to navigate the Portal

The Portal contains key information about your organization’s disclosure, such as which people in your organization have access to the Portal and who has requested your organization to disclose. You can also view and update your organization’s details including name, logo and organization description.

Intend to disclose? Follow these steps:

a) Sign in to the CDP Portal.

b) Choose a fee (if applicable) and pay: You can start the payment journey by selecting ‘Choose fee’ in the onboarding tile on the Portal homepage. Once you select this, you can choose the fee you wish to pay and proceed to payment. You can start the questionnaire without paying a fee, but you won’t be able to submit it without paying.

c) Confirm Submission Lead: The Submission Lead (also known as ‘Disclosure Submission Lead’ or simply ‘Lead’) is the key contact point within an organization for CDP. All disclosing organizations must have a Submission Lead.

To become the Submission Lead for your organization, you will need to accept the Terms of Disclosure (also known as the 'Terms and Conditions of Disclosure') This step will assign your user permissions for the current disclosure cycle. As the Submission Lead, you will be asked to submit your organization’s final response to the questionnaire.

You can always return to this step by selecting ‘Confirm Lead’ in the blue bar in the Portal.

 d) Confirm your participation to disclose: To confirm your participation, simply select ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ under the ‘Confirm your participation' section. This will inform your Requester(s) of your intentions to disclose during this cycle.

      e) Set up your questionnaire: The questionnaire setup is a series of questions used to determine the correct questionnaire, modules and questions to show to a disclosing organization.

During the questionnaire setup process, you will be asked to enter information about your company’s annual revenue, CDP-ACS classification, and assessment of environmental issues. Once complete, the blue onboarding banner will switch to the questionnaire KPI banner. This will allow you to track your progress as you complete the questionnaire.

For more detailed information on all of the steps outlined above, please refer to our knowledge article on onboarding steps for companies

At this point, you can begin answering the questionnaire as part of your CDP disclosure.

You can find more information about completing your questionnaire(s) and submitting your response, as well as further guidance for disclosing companies, by accessing our knowledge articles in the CDP Help Center

If you are eligible to pay an admin fee to disclose, you will need to do this before submitting your response.

You may wish to learn more about CDP’s programs and memberships that can enhance and support your disclosure:

  • Reporter Services Program to get tailored support, plus access to data and insights on reporting and managing your environmental risks;

  • Supply Chain Membership to engage your suppliers, pinpoint risks, and identify opportunities; and

  • Accredited Solutions Providers to access a trusted network of providers offering a range of expertise and services, to accelerate your journey towards environmental leadership. You can also become an ASP.
